A Closer Look at the Delta Variant

From the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, scientists and providers have been on alert for variants in the original virus. Put simply, a variant is an evolution of the virus, typically making it more contagious, stronger or both. During the last 18 months several variants have been identified, but none of them as troublesome as the Delta variant.

The first Delta case in the United States was diagnosed in March and today it is the dominant strain here. We have seen considerable spread of this variant in Iowa in recent weeks.

The good news is that COVID-19 vaccines work, providing effective protection to most and greatly reducing the risk of serious disease in those who are vaccinated and become infected.

If you are not immunized, it is not too late. We have ample supply of the vaccine and can provide the shot confidentially and at no cost to you.
